‘Procession of Mother Nature and Man’

For one day only, on June 21, New York City joined 300 other international cities in turning public spaces into musical stages and waving permit fees for street performers. Several artists from Elixir Productions Theatre Company and former/current students at Mercer County Community College marked the occasion by collaborating on a public outdoor performance about the abuses endured by Mother Nature.

Inspired in part by Japanese Butoh Dance, five performers drenched in white were accompanied by a green sprite (Yiraldi Reyes) and a young man (Elixir member Josiah DeAndrea) on a procession of movement and chanting through Washington Square Park. The text was written by recent MCCC graduate Shauri Johnson, who appeared in white alongside Michelle Wood, Jody P. Person, Aubrey Malloy, and Melanie Britton.
